Yough Senior High School

Greetings from Yough Senior High School, located in Herminie, Pennsylvania! On behalf of our teachers and staff, we welcome you! Our mission is to provide all students with a 21st-century learning experience in a collaborative and supportive environment. With your help, we can achieve this mission.

Our rigorous curriculum is the foundation that will prepare all of our students for future endeavors. To do this we offer a variety of academic programs:

Dual credit classes, through Yough Senior High and The University of Pittsburgh, Westmoreland County Community College, and Mt. Aloysius College, let students get a jump start on college for a fraction of the tuition price. These classes, taught by our instructors during the standard school day, qualify for both high school and college credit simultaneously. The Dual Enrollment Program is open to juniors and seniors, with courses covering a variety of subject areas.

In addition to our Dual Enrollment Program, we offer a number of Advanced Placement classes. Our college and career-ready initiative doesn’t end with college preparedness. For example, through our partnership with the Central Westmoreland Career & Technology center, students may enroll into industry based technical and certification programs designed to meet the needs of an evolving workforce and develop skills for lifelong learning and living.

Besides academics, we offer extracurricular programs including the performing arts and interscholastic athletics, competing in the WPIAL. We also have several clubs, including NHS, Student Council, Yearbook, Art NHS, Chorus, Marching Band, Colorguard, FBLA, CAP/SADD, Spanish and French clubs, Robotics, Prom Committee, YALE, Pride, Student Mentor, Journalism, Strategies, Spirit, Outdoors and Envirothon. These clubs help meet the interests of all our students and provide opportunities for them to get involved with their school!

Sincerely,

Mr. Sutherland

The Yough High School Robotics came in fourth at the Preliminary Competition on Friday 3/15, beating the teams from United HS, California Area HS, and Greensburg Salem HS.

The spinning weapon robot was driven by senior, Becca Ghion, leading us to victory in those battles.

We are seeded in the winner’s bracket for the Final Competition, taking place Friday and Saturday 4/26 & 4/27 from 8:30 am-6:00 pm at California University’s Convocation Center.
